The Middle of the World: an idyllic dream

31 10 2010

Rating: Unrated

Runtime: 1 hr. 25 min.

Rotten Tomatoes: 58%, 5.7/10

A family sets off on a 2,000 miles trip to Rio de Janeiro…on bicycles. It’s a true story and the idea of it is incredibly intriguing. And so are the ideas introduced in the movie. Everyone is discovering what they want and some are never satisfied. The problem with this movie is despite the 2,000 mile trip, it seems to end exactly where it started. No one has changed, only the setting in which they live. It provides us no satisfaction in the end, no lessons learned. I can’t help but think the true story was much more intriguing than the movie. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the true story anywhere. I would look forward to reading it though if it becomes available in English online.
